“They  shall  not  pass” is  a  famous  slogan  used  to  express  determination  to  defend  a  position  against  an  enemy. It  was  most  famously  used  during  WW I  in  the  Battle  of  Verdun  by  Robert  Nivelle ( A ) . Gandalf  battles  the  Balrog  ( B ) in  the  Mines  of  Moria  in  The  fellowship  of  the  Ring and  declares  “You  shall  not  pass”.

    Was used by general Nivelle (A) in the Battle of Verdun WW I
    A variation of this was used in Lord of the Rings by Gandalf when Balrog appraoches him (B)

    There are actually quite a few military folks who have said that :) . One i know is Dolores Ibaruri during the Spanish civil war. Dont know this gentleman.
