A - Virgil I. Grissom Gus Grissom announced he would name Mercury 4, Liberty Bell 7. Grissom said the name was an appropriate call-sign for the bell-shaped spacecraft. He also said the name was synonymous with "freedom". As a tribute to the original Liberty Bell, a "crack" was painted on the side of the spacecraft.

B - Margaret Brown aka The Unsinkable Molly Brown
This first manned flight of the Gemini spacecraft was very much a test flight. In a playful reference to the Broadway hit The Unsinkable Molly Brown, Grissom nicknamed the Gemini 3 spacecraft Molly Brown hoping that it would not duplicate his experience with Liberty Bell 7. It was the last Gemini to be named by an astronaut. All subsequent flights in the program were designated by a Roman numeral.

Astronaut Gus Grissom climbs into "Liberty Bell 7" spacecraft before launch on the morning of July 21, 1961. Astronaut John Glenn, Grissom's back up, helps him into the capsule.
Some problem with its hatch, led Grissom's capsule to sink after splashdown. It was salvaged from the Atlantic Ocean in 1999.

Margret Brown
In 1965, the capsule launched in the Gemini 3 space mission was unofficially named the "Molly Brown," a humorous reference to Gus Grissom's previous incident with the Mercury capsule Liberty Bell that sank, nearly drowning Grissom, off the Florida coast.
