Daily Question # 335

Scores  of  questions  can  be  framed  about  the  subject  of   A ( i.e.  the  guy  on  the  left  in  the  dock ) . I  shall  ask  only  two :-) .

No. 1 – What  is  the  significance  of  snap  A ?

No.2 – Connect  the  chap  in  A  to  B .

A

A

B

B

Part  1 – The  pic  shows  infamous  physician-criminal  Dr  Hawley  Harvey  Crippen  with  his  muse  Ethel  le  Neve  in  the  old  Bailey  court  in  1910 . He  was  sentenced  to  death  for  the  murder  of  his  wife  Cora  Crippen . This  snap  is  the  only  one  showing  a  defendant  being  sentenced  to  death  and  lead  to  the  law  that  there  could  be  no  photography  in  a  court .

Part 2 – Dr  Crippen  was  the  first  criminal  to  be  caught  with  the  aid  of  Wireless  communication . Pic  B  shows  Jagadish  Chandra  Bose , who  is  credited  with  the  invention  of  the  first  ever  wireless  device .

Nobody  got  the  Part  1  funda . But  then , ill  be  generous  and  award  full  points  to  all  who  identified  both  the  pics  . Cracked  by  Arun , Kamal  Rathi  and  Comfortably  &  technically  Dumb . Half  credits  to  Rithwik  and  Abhishek .

  1. arun says:

This is Dr Crippen (A) in the dock at the Old Bailey, caught fleeing to Canada by relay of his presence on the ship by the captain using the telegraph (Samuel Morse being its inventor -B)

  2. Kamal Rathi says:

In the dock: Dr Crippen and his mistress Ethel Le Neve
In the painting: Jagadish Chandra Bose
Dr.Crippen has gone down in history as the first criminal to be captured with the aid of wireless communication and we know that Mr.J C Bose is considered one of the fathers of radio science

  3. Kamal Rathi says:

Crippens tiral is perhaps the shotest in the history, lasting for only 27 minutes, when the decision was made.

  4. That’s Dr. Hawley Harvey Crippen and his lover Ethel le Neve under trial for the murder of Dr. Crippen’s wife.

This was the first case to be solved with the aid of wireless communication. – J C Bose connection

Both the accused were convicted and hanged

This was also famous for pathologist Bernard Spilsbury’s involvement

In recent years some doubts have been cast over their conviction based on DNA test results.

  5. Rithwik says:

    Marconi and JC Bose

  6. To explain the wireless communication funda – The couple, after an interrogation by the police, fled to Canada in disguise. But the ship’s captain saw through it and sent a wireless message which helped the police take a faster boat to Canada and reach ahead of the couple to arrest them as soon as they arrived

  7. Abhishek says:
