Daily Question # 301

The  common  belief  is  that  IT  takes  its  origin  from  a  town  in  the  province  shown  in  A . But , actually , IT  is  derived  from  the  person  on  whom  the  lead  role  of   the  very  famous  opera  B  is  based .

Quoting  a  joint  presentation ,

“Although  citizens  of  Thespiae  are  called  Thespians, the  common  word  thespian  meaning  an  actor  comes  not  from  this  city  but  from  the  legendary  first  actor, Thespis, on whom  the  Gilbert  &  Sullivan  opera  is  based”

  1. The word Thespian, meaning an actor comes not from the Greek town of Thespiae, but it’s citizen Thespis (who is supposed to be the first ever actor to have acted in a play)

    The opera is Thespis,which is also the name of the character.

    The town is Thespiae in the Greek province of Boeotia.

    The term is Thespian.
