Daily Question # 23

It  has  happened  only  twice  in  history . The  first  time  was  in  1984  when  A  and  B  were  involved . C  and  D  gave  a  repeat  performance  in  2000 . What ?

Nancy  Hogshead (A) and  Carrie  Steinseifer(B)  tied  for  gold  in  the  1984  Olympics  in  the  100 m  freestyle  event . The  only  other  time  the  gold  was  shared  in  a  swimming  event  in  the  Olympics  was  in  2000  when  Gary  Hall Jr (C)  and  Anthony  Ervin (D)  clocked  the  same  time  in  the  50 m  freestyle  event .

    The first pair is Nancy Hogshead and Carrie Steinseifer who had a dead-heat for gold in the 100m freestyle at Los Angeles 1984. I remember it quite well and some questions really make me feel old :-/

    Needed google to find the name of Anthony Ervin, who tied for 50m gold with Gary Hall Jr in 2000

    In 1972 Gunnar Larsson clocked the same time as Alexander “Tim” McKee in the 400m medley, and then won the gold by 2-1000th of a second when the next decimal place was considered. The rules were changed thereafter to allow for a dead-heat if the two swimmers had the same hundredth-of-a-second times.
